The Skilled Worker route requires a qualifying job with an approved sponsor and a Certificate of Sponsorship. The role, occupation code, salary, English ability, and other requirements must meet the rules in force at the time of application.
Who this route suits
Professionals with an eligible sponsored UK job.
Certificate of Sponsorship
The employer must hold a Sponsor Licence and issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) before the worker applies. The CoS contains the job details, salary, and occupation code.
Salary requirements
Applicants must meet the general salary threshold and the going rate for the specific occupation code. Where these differ, the higher figure applies. Tradeable characteristics can reduce requirements in some cases.
English language
Applicants must demonstrate English at a minimum CEFR B1 level through an approved test or by meeting an exemption.
Settlement pathway
Skilled Worker visa holders can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after five continuous years in the UK.
Important to know
Do not use one salary figure as though it applies to every occupation. Salary thresholds vary by SOC code.
