The High Potential Individual route does not require a UK job offer at the application stage. It is time-limited and is not itself a direct route to settlement.
Who this route suits
Recent graduates of qualifying universities.
Eligible qualifications
The qualification must be from a globally ranked university on the approved HPI list, and must have been awarded within the five years before application.
Duration and settlement
The visa lasts two years for most graduates and three years for doctoral graduates. Settlement cannot be achieved directly through HPI — the holder must switch to an eligible long-term route.
Important to know
Keep the eligible university list and qualification timing current.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I extend the HPI visa?
- No. The HPI visa cannot be extended. Holders must switch to another visa category if they wish to remain in the UK after it expires.
