Canada Visitor Visa (TRV)

Temporary resident visa for eligible visitors to Canada.

The Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is required for nationals of countries that are not visa-exempt to visit Canada. The visa allows entry but the border officer determines the length of stay at the port of entry.

Who this route suits

Nationals of visa-required countries visiting Canada for tourism, family visits, or business.

Purpose of visit

The TRV covers tourism, family visits, business meetings (not employment), medical treatment, and other short visits. The purpose must be declared correctly.

Important to know

Visa-exempt nationals do not need a TRV but may need an eTA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extend my stay?
Extensions of visitor stays may be possible in some countries but are not guaranteed. Overstaying a visitor visa has serious consequences.
Can I work on a visitor visa?
No. Employment is not permitted on visitor status in any of the countries covered.
