The AEWV is New Zealand's principal employer-sponsored work route. Employer accreditation, the job, occupation skill level, pay, hours, and other conditions must meet current requirements.
For New Zealand, Go Abroad Migration advises on student visas. Information on other New Zealand programmes is provided as general information only.
Who this route suits
Workers with qualifying offers from accredited employers.
Employer accreditation
The employer must apply to Immigration New Zealand for accreditation before hiring offshore workers through the AEWV. Accreditation levels differ for standard employers and high-volume employers.
Job check
For most roles, a job check must be completed before the worker applies. The job check confirms the role meets pay, settlement, and other requirements.
Worker visa
After the employer obtains accreditation and passes a job check, the worker applies for the AEWV. The visa is tied to the specific employer and job.
Pathway to residence
For workers in eligible Green List occupations, the AEWV can form part of the Work to Residence pathway.
Important to know
Family support and residence options depend on the worker's role and circumstances.
