Canada Bridging Open Work Permit
A Bridging Open Work Permit can help some applicants continue working while an eligible permanent residence application is being processed. It is not available simply because someone plans to apply for PR.
General information only. Requirements change. IRCC makes the final decision.
Eligibility conditions
The applicant must be currently in Canada, hold a valid work permit or be eligible for restoration, and have submitted an eligible permanent residence application that has reached the required stage such as receiving an ITA or AOR.
What it covers
The BOWP allows the holder to continue working in Canada while awaiting the PR decision. It bridges the gap between the expiring work permit and PR approval.
Eligible PR streams
Not all PR applications support a BOWP. Express Entry applications that have received an ITA and resulted in a complete application are a common eligible base.
